Warning signs to take seriously
Excessive body roll in corners, a harsh ride over bumps, clunking from the wheels, uneven tyre wear, or the car drifting to one side. Any of these points to a suspension or steering fault.
Shock absorbers in pairs, always
Front or rear shock absorbers replaced as a pair on the same axle. Springs checked at the same time. Around 1.5 hours per axle.
Wishbones and control arms
Complete assembly including bush and ball joint. Around 2 hours per side. All neighbouring components inspected when replacing one.
Anti-roll bar links
A common MOT failure item and a frequent cause of clunking over speed bumps. Around 30 minutes per side. Both sides checked at the same time.
Track rod ends and steering rack
Track rod end replacement from 45 minutes per side. Wheel alignment needed after. Steering rack from around 3 hours including power steering flush and alignment.
CV joints and driveshafts
Clicking or clunking when turning is a classic outer CV joint sign. Inner joints and full driveshaft replacement also available. Around 1.5 to 2 hours per side.
