Steamed-up school runs around Wallington's grammar schools
Wallington has several large schools, including Wallington High School for Girls and Wallington County Grammar School, and the morning and afternoon school runs fill the surrounding roads. A car packed with children on a wet morning puts a lot of moisture into the air, and the windscreen fogs quickly. The ventilation system has to shift that damp air out, and a clogged cabin filter slows it right down, just when you need the glass clear for crossings and pedestrians.
Queues make it worse. Crossing the A232 at Wallington Green can take a while at peak times, and the Woodcote Road, Stafford Road and Manor Road junctions build up too. Stop-start driving with the heater on is where weak airflow is most noticeable, and the problem tends to be worst on the shortest trips, before the engine has warmed. A fresh filter restores the flow, and using the air conditioning along with the heater dries the air so the screen clears faster.
Spring brings a different problem for families with hay fever. Beddington Park, a short drive away, and the playing fields around the schools put tree and grass pollen into the air from spring into summer. If the filter was last changed at an autumn service, it may be well used by then, so a spring change is worth considering. It's a quick job, and on most cars the filter sits behind the glovebox.
We check the old filter for leaves and damp, clear out the housing, fit the new one so it seals and test the fan on every speed. From the town centre it's straight up Woodcote Road and Manor Road, across Wallington Green and along London Road to Soho Mills. Most cabin filters take 15 to 30 minutes, so you can drop in between the morning run and the afternoon pick-up. You'll get a written quote, and a 3-month workmanship warranty.
