Short trips on St Helier's avenues and a car that won't demist
The St Helier estate's avenues are long and straight but lined with parked cars and traffic calming, so journeys are slow and stop-start even when they're short. Trips to the shops, the station or a match at Imperial Fields are rarely more than a couple of miles. Add the bus-heavy stretch of London Road around Morden station, and many local cars barely warm up before the trip ends. On cold, damp days, the heater and fan do most of their work while the windscreen is still misted, and a clogged cabin filter makes that much slower.
The filter clogs gradually with dust, pollen and road grime, and airflow drops so slowly that most people don't notice until the screen stays fogged for ages. Cars kept near Morden Hall Park and the greener parts of the estate also collect leaves around the fresh-air intake, and if those block the drains, water can soak the filter and start a musty smell. Families with young children in the back often notice the smell first.
We check the filter's condition, look for damp and debris, clean out the housing and fit an OE-equivalent filter so it seals properly. If you prefer, an activated carbon filter adds a layer that absorbs some of the exhaust smell from London Road's buses. Some cars hide the filter under the scuttle panel, which takes a little longer, and we'll tell you when you book. We run the fan through every speed and check each vent before handing the car back.
The route is Morden Hall Road to the roundabout, Morden Road past Morden Hall Park to Mitcham, then Cranmer Road and Carshalton Road south into Hackbridge, around 12 minutes. On most cars the filter takes 15 to 30 minutes, so you can wait. Collection and delivery can be arranged if you'd rather leave the car with us. You'll get a written quote and a 3-month workmanship warranty.
