School runs, Roundshaw Downs and short-trip BMWs
Wallington has several large schools, including the grammar schools, and the school run shapes a lot of local driving. A BMW that does two short trips a day in stop-start traffic around Woodcote Road and Stafford Road rarely gets properly warm. That is hard on the engine oil, which collects moisture and unburnt fuel, and on the battery, which never gets a full charge. BMW's energy management notices both, and so do we. Parents parking on residential roads at drop-off also means plenty of kerbside manoeuvring, which is where alloys and tyre sidewalls pick up damage.
Our approach for school-run cars is practical. We check the battery's condition and charging history during the scan, and if it is tired we fit and register the correct replacement. A new battery that is not registered can be charged incorrectly and fail early, so registration is always part of the job. We look at how the car is used before advising on oil intervals, and for many families an extra oil change each year is money well spent. On diesel BMWs, short trips can also cause particulate filter trouble, and we can check the soot level while the car is with us.
Roundshaw, built on the former Croydon Airport, and the roads around Roundshaw Downs and Mellows Park have plenty of traffic calming and parked cars. Speed humps are gentle on a car driven slowly over them, but repeated hits work the front suspension bushes and anti-roll bar links. We check those at every visit and quote in writing for anything worn, so there are no surprises when you collect the car.
Because we are so close, dropping off is easy. Head north up Woodcote Road past the station, over the A232 at Wallington Green and along London Road; Soho Mills is near Hackbridge station, about six minutes away. Many owners walk back, but collection can be arranged. Repairs carry our 3-month workmanship warranty.
