Wallington Green queues, school runs and the Fiat Panda
Crossing the A232 at Wallington Green queues at peak times, and down in south Wallington the school-run traffic around Wilson's School and the roads towards Roundshaw Downs builds up twice a day. A Fiat Panda or 500 doing that run is covering only a few miles at a time, often with a cold engine. That pattern matters for three Fiat systems in particular: the Dualogic gearbox, the timing belt and the diesel particulate filter on MultiJet models.
Dualogic cars do their hardest work in queues like the one at Wallington Green, so at a service we check the fluid level, the hydraulic operation and the stored clutch wear. On the 1.2 Fire, a Panda that only does the school run may reach its belt's age limit well before its mileage limit, and the belt fails without warning. We check the history and give you a clear answer on whether it is due. If it is, a belt change is typically half a day to a full day, so it can often be done while the car would otherwise be parked outside the school.
The 1.3 MultiJet diesel suits longer journeys better than the Stafford Road school run. Short trips can leave regenerations unfinished, dilute the oil with diesel and bring up an early oil change warning. If yours does this, we read the DPF and oil data and suggest what helps, from a regular longer drive to simply changing the oil when the car asks. Ignoring an early oil change warning is the one thing we would steer you away from, because diluted oil protects the engine and timing chain poorly.
Because we are so close, dropping the car off after the morning school run and collecting it before pick-up is realistic, as most Fiat services take 1–2.5 hours. Anything beyond the service is quoted in writing, and repairs carry our 3-month workmanship warranty. If the Dualogic will not select a gear, collection and delivery can be arranged.
