Tooting Broadway traffic and a Fiat 500's automated gearbox
Tooting Broadway, where the A24 meets the A217, is congested for much of the day with buses, pedestrians and delivery vans. A Fiat 500 or Panda with Dualogic handles that traffic by engaging and disengaging its clutch for you, dozens of times on a single trip past the Granada Tooting. Eventually that shows: a hesitation before first gear engages, a beep, a flashing display, or the car sitting in neutral at the lights when you want to go.
We diagnose Dualogic faults by reading the gearbox, checking hydraulic pressure and fluid, testing the actuator and pump, and looking at clutch wear. Sometimes a calibration restores smooth changes. If a part has failed, we explain which and quote in writing. After any clutch or actuator work, the gearbox is calibrated and road tested before you collect it. We fill only with the specified Dualogic hydraulic fluid, because the wrong type can damage the seals in the pump and actuator, and a fluid mistake can undo an otherwise good repair.
Away from the Broadway, the streets around Tooting Bec and Tooting Commons are quieter, and many 500s there do a few short trips a week. On a TwinAir, that gentle use is fine for the engine itself, but the MultiAir system needs its oil changed annually to the Fiat 9.55535 specification, because it uses that oil to open the inlet valves. On a 1.2 Fire, the belt's age limit tends to come before its mileage limit. The belt gives no warning, so if there is no record of it being done, we will recommend it and put the price in writing.
Controlled parking around the Broadway runs Monday to Saturday, and the drive to Hackbridge heads east along Mitcham Road through Mitcham, so collection and delivery can be arranged if that suits you. Repairs carry our 3-month workmanship warranty, and we are open 8am to 8pm six days a week. If you come up Garratt Lane from Summerstown, add a few minutes for the Broadway junction.
