Remapping the work vans that live on Beddington Lane
A lot of the remap enquiries we get from Beddington are about vans and pickups rather than hot hatches. The firms along Beddington Lane, the recycling yards near Beddington Farmlands and the traffic serving the Energy Recovery Facility put commercial diesels through a hard life: loaded up, pulling away behind skip lorries, then crawling over the tram crossing. On many of those engines a well-judged Stage 1 map adds low and mid-range torque, which means fewer downshifts with a full load and less labouring at low revs.
The catch is that a working van is rarely in showroom condition. Before we write anything we look at injector correction values, boost against requested boost and the clutch under load, because a van that has done years of short, heavy trips often has a clutch or dual mass flywheel near its limit. If it is, we tell you and quote to sort that first, or set the torque limit lower so the map suits what is fitted. The DPF, EGR and AdBlue stay in place and working, which matters for ULEZ running and the MOT.
Family cars from the quieter side of Beddington get the same treatment, though the reasons differ. A turbo petrol that spends its week on school runs through the parked-up streets off Croydon Road will feel the gain mostly when joining faster roads, not in 20mph traffic.
